Today’s root beer, brought to us by Co-president and co founder of the Root Beer Party Kim Belding, is: Chicago Draft Style Root Beer
I liked that this one had more of a bold taste than the Dad’s root beer, but it seemed a little unbalanced. It was missing the smooth creamy finish of a truly great root beer. This one was much sharper and left you with a bite offering no real finish to the palette.
It is a good root beer if you are pairing it with something rich, since it will cut through the richness, but on it’s own, it is not the best root beer out there. The carbonation was less pronounced than with the more commercial root beers so it seems a bit heavier in body. It also is made with real sugar which adds to the weight of the syrup.
If you find yourself in Chicago and come across this root beer, I would give it a try for novelties sake, but as a mainstay in your root beer larder, I would not recommend it . I would give it a 5 out of 10. Until next time true believers, may your mug always be frosted and your root beer always foamy.
