Today we have Old Red Eye Root Beer, legend has it that they could only get this bull to calm down by giving it a root beer, and this was his favorite root beer.
If you like root beer with a strong anise flavor, than this one is for you. The flavor is rather muted and over powered by the flavor of black licorice. I am not one of those people who dislike the flavor of anise, but this root beer is wildly out of balance and the finish is just licorice. It is not a great root beer in my opinion.
This is the first one I seriously thought of not finishing, but slow sips over the course of the day did allow me to finish it. I would hate to have wasted such a generous gift from Kim Belding.
There is not much more to say about this root beer. It was lightly carbonated and mild, except for the anise flavor. None of the other elements in the root beer really came through. If you want to try it as a one off sometime, I suppose it would be worth it for curiosity’s sake, but it is not a repeat purchase. I give it a 2 out of 10. Not worth the time to seek it out. Leave it for the bulls.
Until next time True Believers, may your mug always be frosted and your root beer always foamy. Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for day 8: Boylan Root Beer.
